Fortunately, you can take the time to release some unwanted tension, whether you are at work, at home with the kids, or even on the train, using five easy steps. And it actually works!

Start with sitting down comfortably in a chair, with your feet planted on the floor and close your eyes. Concentrate on your breathing. Try not to think about anything as you do this, or try to refrain from daydreaming. If you would like, to help you keep your mind free of thought, concentrate on your abdomen and feel the muscles tighten with each breath you take.

Take yourself back to a happy moment in your life, where you felt joy and happiness, or you might like to think of a place you visit regularly where you feel peaceful and harmonious. Allow yourself to become emerged into this memory and remember the nice emotions you had experienced.

Once you feel completely relaxed in both mind and body, release the stress and tension you are feeling by imagining the stress pouring out of you with every breathe you exhale. Now, imagine you are surrounded in a white light that is creating a sense of happiness and calm. Now, imagine yourself getting through the rest of your day, feeling happy and serene. Even imagine that you are starting to have the best day you've ever had.

Next, start to gently wiggle your fingers and your toes, then slowly stretch your whole body. Start with stretching your arms over your head, concentrating on your breathing as you do this. Make sure you stretch the abdomen while doing so, then move down to your legs and feet. After a good stretch, you should start feling refreshed and energized. Keep your eyes closed while you complete your series of stretches.

Aroma therapy is another excellent tool in relieving stress. It is easily accessible and you can carry it with you everywhere you go. Try this stress relieving blend of essential oils:

30ml of sweet almond oil
2 drops of patchouli oil
5 drops of sweet orange oil
2 drops of ylang ylang

Either inhale from a tissue or massage onto the pressure points on your wrist and forehead.
